There are 3 major assignments that are all individual. Unlike some UTW modules, there are no interview or survey portions. For the reflective summary, you are given a short article to read and you must write your review on it. As it is academic writing, your essay should be objective and the focus is to keep it easy to read. Do not be overly artistic with cliques or idioms. For the oral pitch, you will propose a topic of your own interest to do ecocritical analysis on it for your research paper. Like all other UTW modules, this module is very time-consuming especially after recess week since it requires you to find other research papers to do your citations. Try to choose a topic you are already knowledgeable about, so that it will be easier to stay motivated.
The instructor, Dr Jinat, is a very nice lady. I enjoyed her teaching very much even though it is on zoom. She is probably the only teacher I enjoyed interacting with on zoom, compared to all the zoom tutorials I attended. Content is very heavy at the start and I was a little discouraged. However, Dr Jinat adjusted the content to fit our interest along the way so it was more bearable towards the end. Content involves reading ecocritically which is very abstract and it probably appeals to you if you are passionate about environmental issues. Some key words covered in this module are: anthropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism, ecophobia, biophilia, etc. Do look through these keywords on wikipedia and see if you are interested before bidding for this module. All the best!
